Pi Day 2022 – 3.1415926535897932384626433832 …
Pi Day, March 14, approaches. As you’ll recall, the numbers in the date (3/14) match the first three digits of the mathematical constant pi 3.14159 (π).
AAUW Palo Alto will again acknowledge Pi Day with a fundraiser. This year, we will designate donations to the Education Opportunities Fund (Fellowships).
The fun part of the fundraiser also returns. If you send a donation of any amount for National AAUW’s Fellowships, you will be entered into a drawing for a fresh pie of the winner’s choice. Three (3) names of donors will be drawn on March 18 and pies delivered after an appointment is scheduled.
We are not sending letters so please keep this important message. It contains the information you need.
How to enter.
Option 1. Write a check payable to “AAUW” with “Fellowships #4336” on the Memo line.
Send the check to: Marie Wolbach, 3427 Greer Rd., Palo Alto, CA 94303.
Option 2. Make a donation with a credit card online at aauw.org. indicating fund #4336.
Then send an email to mariewolbach@gmail.com saying simply “I donated” and you will be entered into the drawing. You need not indicate the amount of your gift. (The aauw site is currently offline for maintenance but should be available soon.)
Celebrate the day.
San Francisco Exploratorium physicist Larry Shaw founded Pi Day in 1988. A celebration is held annually at the Exploratorium and by groups around the world. To virtually join the local one, go to https://www.exploratorium.edu/pi between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on 3/14. You can hear related stories, music and poems, see a pi quilt, and more.
