AAUW Funds

The Educational Foundation, popularly known as EF, is one of the nations largest sources of private funding for educational programs that directly benefit women and girls. It is a fund of over $100 million that provides ground breaking research; fellowships and grants for outstanding women from around the globe; special awards; vital community action projects; and symposia, roundtables and forums. AAUW Palo Alto actively supports the Educational Foundation through visibility and fund raising within the branch and our community.

AAUW Palo Alto completed an International Fellowship endowment as of June 1999. Every year, an International Fellow will have the honor and good fortune of being a recipient of the Palo Alto Branch International Fellowship. This is the second EF endowment that AAUW Palo Alto has funded.

AAUW California coordinates an annual EF Fellows Luncheon in the fall. Usually held in the East Bay, the Fellows luncheon provides a unique opportunity to meet and hear from EF grant recipients. The research publication, Tech-Savvy: Educating Girls in the New Computer Age, was released in April 2000. The report is a result of the Foundations 2-year Commission on Technology, Gender, and Teacher Education, and takes a close look at girls and teachers perspectives on todays information technology in the school, home, community and workplace. paragraph_separatorEducational Foundation Fellowships and Grants

Educational Foundation fellowships and grants include Selected Profession Fellowships that support women scholars in areas such as architecture, engineering and medicine; Career Development Grants to help women re-enter the work force, change careers or advance in their current careers; American Fellowships in the U.S. for women doctoral candidates or scholars seeking funds for postdoctoral research; and International Fellowships to help develop women leaders who will work for change in their societies and heighten awareness of gender equity issues. Scholar in Residence special awards are also granted. The Eleanor Roosevelt Fund created in 1988 provides funds to respond to the problems and opportunities facing girls in school. Community Action grants provide seed money to individual women and AAUW branches for programs that promote education and equity for women and girls.
