Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian will serve as in-person host and moderator for this national launch event for National Voter Corps, which also features voting rights activists joining the videoconference from three different states.

A Conversation on Voting Rights with Ari Berman

Ari Berman is a nationally known expert on voting rights and journalist for Mother Jones magazine.  His articles have appeared in The New York Times, The Nation, The Atlantic, Rolling Stone, Politico, The Guardian, and many other publications; he is a frequent guest and political commentator on MSNBC, NPR and C-Span.  Berman’s latest book, Give Us the Ballot, focuses on the history of voting rights since the struggle for passage of the Voting Rights Act in 1965.

National Voter Corps, a nonpartisan organization based in Palo Alto, California, is launching a 50-State Volunteer Map which provides up-to-date contact information for over 70 organizations across the country that are seeking volunteers to help them with voter registration and get-out-the-vote activities.  The website also provides education tools, including an interactive voter turnout demographics map of the United States.
